FEES, BONDS, AND ACCOMMODATION CHARGE
The following is general information only and should not be relied upon for any other purposes.
All permanent and (short-term) respite, high level, and low level care recipients, in residential aged care generally pay a basic daily care fee.
As from 20 September 2011 the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing set the standard resident contribution at $41.34 per day. Some care recipients may pay a lesser or higher amount than the standard resident contribution.
For instance, care recipients entering into permanent care are assessed by Centrelink and may be required to pay an income tested daily fee in addition to a basic daily fee.
Fully supported, Partially supported, and Non supported residents
Centrelink determine from a potential care recipient’s statement of assets, whether the person is eligible to be a ‘fully supported’ ‘partially supported’ or ‘non supported’ resident on entry into permanent residential aged care.
Low level care ‘fully supported ‘residents
These residents generally pay a basic daily fee with no additional ongoing capital fees.
Low level care ‘Not supported ‘residents
These residents generally pay a basic daily fee and if they have assets above $40,500 are eligible to pay an accommodation bond.
Hellenic Aged Care requires an accommodation bond of at least $300,000. An accommodation bond is similar to an interest free loan. Retentions of $318.00 per month (adjusted annually) are permitted for the period of residence up to a maximum of 5 years. Interest can be charged from the date of permanent admission, on the outstanding amount of a lump sum accommodation bond, until the bond is paid. Applicable interest rates are issued quarterly by the Department of Health and Ageing (8.86 per cent pa for admissions in the quarter from 1 October 2011 to 31 December 2011). The bond less retentions is returned when the resident vacates the facility.
High level care ‘fully supported ‘residents
These residents generally pay a basic daily fee with no additional ongoing capital fees.
High level care ‘partially supported ‘residents
These residents generally pay a basic daily fee and if they have assets between $40,500 and less than $107,850.40 are eligible to pay a daily accommodation charge.
High level care ‘Not supported ‘residents
These residents generally pay a basic daily fee and if they have assets above $107,850.40 are eligible to pay a daily accommodation charge.
