A powerful display of unity, diversity and shared identity was on full display at St. Andrew’s Grammar as the school community came together to celebrate Harmony Day, showcasing an extraordinary 54 cultures and nationalities.
As Western Australia’s only Greek Orthodox day school, St. Andrew’s Grammar embraced its unique position as a cultural melting pot, with students,
and staff proudly representing their heritage through traditional dress, performances, food and storytelling.
The event highlighted the school’s commitment to inclusivity and respect, reinforcing the core message of Harmony Day — that everyone belongs.
CEO of the Hellenic Community of Western Australia, Paul Savvas, said the celebration was a powerful reflection of modern Australia.
“What we saw at St. Andrew’s Grammar is the very best of Australia — a community that not only accepts diversity but celebrates it with pride,” Mr Savvas said.
“To have 54 cultures represented within one school is remarkable. It speaks volumes about the inclusive environment that has been created here and the values being instilled in these young people.”
Students participated in a range of activities designed to foster cultural understanding, including music and dance performances from around the world, classroom presentations and a vibrant parade of nations.
Mr Savvas said the school’s Greek Orthodox foundation provided a strong cultural anchor while embracing a broad and diverse community.
“St. Andrew’s Grammar is deeply proud of its Hellenic heritage, but equally proud of the multicultural community it serves,” he said.
“Events like Harmony Day show that cultural identity and inclusion go hand in hand — they strengthen communities and help shape globally minded citizens.” The celebration brought together families from across Perth, reinforcing the school’s reputation as a welcoming and inclusive environment where diversity is not only acknowledged, but embraced.
